The world is an interesting place. And people are interesting creatures.

Some might feel a little uncomfortable being referred to as a ‘creature’ but, in the end, we are creatures, just like all living things – animals, birds, fish, and so on.  In fact, the argument can be made that plants, trees, and even molds and fungus are creatures, too.

Plants, trees, and other organisms are living ‘beings’, each given life by the same inner essence as we animals.

You might not realize just how important it is to be Self Aware. If this describes you, you’re in very good company.

Most people are not self aware and they’ve never been taught the importance and immense power of this very basic skill.

Here’s the thing… Understanding the self gives you the ability to better understand others and the world.

Out of water and physically exhausted in the 90 degree-plus, dry heat, I focused on just 1 thing. I believed it was a struggle for my life as willed myself forward, upward, along the seemingly endless climb up the Kaibab Trail at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Exhaustion had reduced my focus to only this: take the next step.

It had come to that. Just take 1 step. And even that felt impossible. Dying on this long, steep trail seemed like a real possibility.

​​​​I parked my rental car in front of the remotely located address in the gorgeous town of Sedona, Arizona. I walked up a little path on the side of the small but lovely home on what appeared to be a very large property and, as instructed by the email they’d sent, I opened the door to a little waiting area and stepped inside.

I sat on a little wood bench and waited, wondering what was going to happen next. A few minutes after the appointed time, Dr. David R. Hawkins walked out and invited me into the little office in his home.

Change is a constant in the Universe (an apparent oxymoron). Life changing events usually come without warning (or, are we warned, if we're paying attention?). Such was the case for me on this day.

I came to the realization many years ago: change is good.

I look forward to it. Relish it. And can feel a little stagnant when there’s not enough of it in my life.

But, in addition to the changes we deliberately set in motion, ‘unexpected’ change also is part of life. In that category, there’s good, bad, and the very bad.

When it comes to unexpected change, everyone is fair game. No one is immune. ‘Things’ happen. Sometimes these things are just ‘one of those things’. Other times, they can not-so-subtle messages from the Universe, trying to get your attention.
